Bloomsbury visits Thammasakon Hatyai School for the Blind

As you may remember, last half term, Bloomsbury International School Hatyai, held a non school uniform event to raise money for Thammasakon School for the Blind. We were very proud to have raised almost 11,000 THB in donations for the school, which have gone towards resources to help the children’s learning and development.

This morning, Years 5 – 9 visited the school to meet the staff and students and to see where their money may have gone. The day started with an introduction to the school which enrolls 80 students. Examples of Braille in English and Thai characters were passed around for the students to look at. The students then split up into groups for an activity where they pierced paper using a tool that created braille. Bloomsbury International School Hatyai staff and students, were then taken on a tour of the school where they were able to see the facilities that were on offer for the blind students.

Mr Rowark said, “It was a very humbling experience and really learnt perspective to the difficulties that some people have to overcome. Students were a credit to the school, listened intently, interpreted well for us ‘non-Thai speaking’ staff and took part in the activities offered.”
