I’m a passionate and energetic educator with 25 years teaching and leadership experience in NZ, Australia, the US, Japan, South Korea, China and Myanmar. My first teaching job was at Thidanukhro in 1999, so I’m so excited to be back in Hat Yai and Thailand – this time with my 16 year old son Tūmanako.
Language acquisition and cultural competency are a huge part of my personal and professional lives. I have learned French, German, Spanish, Japanese and Mandarin, in addition to being a native speaker of English and Māori. I plan to learn more Thai and Bahasa to add to my toolkit.
I am a staunch advocate of student led learning which is experiential, engaging and inclusive.
My interests include travel, languages, gardening, cooking, watersports, camping, hiking and snowsports. I’m excited to immerse myself in the beauty of this amazing country, culture and language – made possible through relationships with locals.
Empowering lifelong learning and building strong, nurturing relationships are a crucial part of my practice and I’m looking forward to getting to know all of our students, families and wider school community!
